Mother's
TRAGEDY
Mother had a stroke about a week after I got home. She was going to a WA meeting at Mrs. Matheson's. That's when she had the stroke, down the back laneway.
"Nana" Corston lived for another 15 years after her stroke, although she was paralysed on her left side and needed continual care. She was able to live in her home, which was renovated to make an upstairs apartment where Gertie & Mike Turner lived and cared for her. She lived in the front bedroom, which had been the bedroom where the Corston boys had lived when they were children. For most of her days she was bed-ridden, although she would also sit up in the living room and was always happy to see her family and her grandchildren. When we were children, she often was brought to our home to join us for Christmas dinner and occasionally dad would bundle her up and take her for a drive around the town. She died in 1960.
