TRAGEDY:
My dad got killed in 1941. I was working with Ad Andrews. He went out on 'Number 7". Bunkum was on "Number 8" - passenger trains. They met at Tripoli siding (east of White River). The Operator at Franz gave dad the wrong orders. It was too late then. They met in the rock-cut there at the other end of Tripoli siding. Bunkum lived for about three hours; His fireman was Reed...Johnny Reed. He (Bunkum) told him to jump and he jumped. Weedon was dad's fireman and he jumped too. He was alright, just broke his leg. Both engineers got killed. Mother just got $50.00 a month for a pension after that. I had the orders for a long, long time. I had the emergency brake from dad's engine, too. I don't know whatever happened to them. (They were given to the Chapleau Museum where they were on display for a time, but were, unfortunately, lost).
I went to work for "Chapleau Electric" after that, I worked for them for about a year and a half and then I went and joined the army.
